That vision has been the guiding light for all the events and activities organized by HEART. In fact, our name is an acrostic that spells out what we do:H – help in the area of clothing, health care and food distribution.E – encouragement/exhortation (involves counseling in family life and other related issues)
A – academic Aid in the form of remedial classes and other professional services.
R – rehabilitation of those who have been involved in substance abuse. Also entails helping the family through this crisis situation.
T – training in lifestyle management. Aimed at empowering the individual to make healthy choices and positive contributions to his society.
Since 2001, when our building was officially dedicated, and under the astute guidance of Executive Director Jennifer Boca, we have demonstrated our “heart” through outreach activities focused on the community of Bon Air Gardens and environs as well as in-reach activities for our ART membership.
These include the annual screening for cervical and breast cancer conjunction with the Cancer Society of Trinidad and Tobago; various lectures held on ageing, health and wellness, nutrition, and financial management; as well as our popular health fairs and cooking classes.
One of the very special things we do annually is provide financial support to a deserving child from an SEA class in one of the primary schools in the community to prepare them for secondary school. Through our benevolence arm, we distribute
food baskets on a monthly basis and, at Christmas, hampers are given to persons in need.
One exciting initiative soon to be launched is “Friends of HEART”, which will allow interested like-hearted persons to become covenant partners and support the ministry through financial and other donations. Look out for upcoming lectures, as well as more cooking classes to get you ready for Christmas!
If you visit the church between 6:00am and 6:00pm daily children’s voices ring out from the nursery managed by HEART, and provides affordable and excellent day care for children of the community. HEART also does the counselling of parents and god-parents for baby dedications, and provides general counseling for members of the community and beyond.
